I've arrived safely in Windham for the second last XC race of the UCI World Cup series! My 16h direct flight to JFK went great and I had no problems getting through customs and all my luggage made it! From JFK I had a 3h drive to Windham..,a quick drive through Mc Donalds for a egg Mc Muffin.,cause when in America...,make like the Americans...and upsize your order!! Our accommodation is literary 100m from the race track. We are bunch of South Africans staying together. Luke Roberts, James Reid, Line Griffiths, Candice Neethling and myself. Feeling strong and healthy!!

The last 2 weeks training has been going super well! Just came off a good power block and going over to some speed work from this week!

Today I raced a USN cup race near Midrand....this race was ideal for the type of training that I'm busy with now., from the gun I went out blazing...,so fast that I arrived at one of the marshal points before the marshal managed to get there. With the slight detour I rejoined the route somewhere around 30th place. I swiftly worked my way back to the sharp end of the race and had control of it all again! I managed to win the 50km race in a time of 1h44min.

The route was super fun! Fast and flowing singletrack..,this was the kind of stuff I grew up on in this part of the valley!! Beats a training ride on a roadbike anytime!!

I feel strong and my weight is coming down perfectly! The next race that I will be doing is the World Cup in Windham USA and I have a good feeling about this one!! After that I'll do the Knysna Oyster festival race and then we still have SA champs before the Olympics as well! Keep it together!! The support everywhere from everyone is amazing in this time! My sources told me that the announcement would be made live on Supersport at around 11:20 on Wednesday. When I got this info I was 20 minutes away from home out on a training ride...and I just got a puncture...decided not to fix it and raced home with a flat wheel snaking all over the road...

Fortunately I was just in time to mis the introduction speech. Super tense moment as soon as they started reading out the list of names...moun-tain-bi-king....PHILIP BUYS...the first mountainbiker name they announced!! I jumped up and shouted “YES!!!COME-ON!!!!!” Our two domestic servants and I had a small jive!!...we were the only people home at this time!....after the jive there was a awkward silence for about 10 minutes....then my phone started going wild!!

Iv'e never dreamt of this moment so I'm scared I'm in a dream...think I have to elevated my bed so that I have a 2m drop to the floor just to make sure I am awake every morning from now on! I think this feeling is the same as having to prepare for a battle in some kind of war. Feels like I have to pack out my bow and start fighting! The plan now is to do the next 2 world cup races in USA and Canada as part of preparation.., if I can get my visas in time! Big focus time now!! Today I raced the first leg of the Nissan Trailseeker series at Tyger Valley! Coming back from Europe only 3 days ago I had to send my bicycle on a cargo plane and this plane is apparently very unreliable..,makes a few stops in Africa on its way down. So my bicycle never arrived in time for the race!

AvZ was sweet enough to lend me her bicycle for the race. Pretty much the same bike as mine and with a few minor setup adjustments It was ready to race! This bike was also no stranger to podium finishes..,,so no pressure!

The race started at a fairly easy pace and Gawie Combrinck made the first solo breakaway very early on in the race. I thought we'd catch him later on in the race. Gawie managed to stay away and take the win and I won the sprint for second, Waylon Woolcock got 3rd!
